The Top Five Lies about Mike Huckabee

The Top Five Lies about Gov. Mike Huckabee

Compiled by Lynn Lewis

As in any political campaign, a lot of false information -- and sometimes downright lies – are being spread about various candidates. The only 100% conservative, pro-life candidate remaining, Gov. Mike Huckabee, has been virtually ignored…EXCEPT when the media and other candidates spread misinformation about his record, his viability, or his positions on various issues. You may have heard one or more of the following lies. Wouldn't you like to know the REST of the story?

I've been surprised to hear some otherwise intelligent people repeating stories that are untrue, without checking into them first.

DON'T LET THE MEDIA DO YOUR THINKING FOR YOU. Do some research, listen thoughtfully to both sides of the story, and make an informed decision. Your vote is too precious to leave it up to others.

(Be sure to check out Lie #5…can Huckabee win??)

LIE #1: "Mike Huckabee is a tax-and-spend liberal who raised taxes when he was the governor of Arkansas."

The FACTS: When Governor Huckabee left office, the tax rates remained exactly the same as when he first came into office. Governor Huckabee returned almost $400 million to Arkansas taxpayers, he DOUBLED the standard deduction for individuals and married couples, DOUBLED the childcare tax credit, and eliminated the marriage penalty. He also repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate by 25%, expanded the homestead exemption, and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition.

For much more detailed information, with facts and figures, see the information below under "Fiscal Conservative."

LIE #2: "Mike Huckabee is soft on crime. He pardoned a rapist who then murdered a young girl."

The FACTS: A lot of publicity was generated by a woman whose daughter was murdered by Wayne Dumond. Dumond was a convicted rapist who was granted a PAROLE by the Arkansas Parole Board. Mike Huckabee did NOT parole or pardon Dumond. Governors cannot parole prisoners; they can only grant clemency or a pardon. Huckabee did neither. Dumond's sentence was shortened by Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, a Democrat. Later, he was paroled by the vote of the Parole Board, which was composed entirely of Democrats who were appointed by either Bill Clinton or Jim Guy Tucker.

The Dumond case was a terrible tragedy, but it was NOT Mike Huckabee's fault.

If you are interested in learning more, see the detailed information below under "Dumond."

LIE #3: "Mike Huckabee is soft on immigration. He wanted to give in-state college tuition to illegal aliens in Arkansas."

Governor Huckabee opposes and will never allow amnesty. He believes that securing our borders must be our top priority and has reached the level of a national emergency. In this age of terror, illegal immigration is not only an economic issue, but also a national security issue.

Governor Huckabee opposed the amnesty bill, introduced by Sen. John McCain and Sen. Ted Kennedy, that was attempted to be rushed through Congress last summer, and opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all.

Gov. Huckabee has a 9-point plan to secure the border and reduce the number of illegal aliens in the USA. His plan was endorsed by Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the MinuteMan civilian border patrol.

It has been reported that Mike Huckabee supported benefits for illegal immigrants while he was Governor of Arkansas.

Governor Huckabee never supported benefits for illegal immigrants. In Arkansas, illegal immigrants do not receive welfare benefits or food stamps. Governor Huckabee has always been, and will always be, supportive of the laws and regulations of the country.

It has also been said that Mike Huckabee was in favor of providing college scholarships for illegal immigrants while he was Governor.

The Supreme Court has ordered that any immigrant – legal or illegal – must be provided an education. Governor Huckabee only supported a measure that applied to those who met certain academic qualifications and who applied for legal citizenship. The measure didn't pass. Governor Huckabee stressed that any student would simply be treated as any other graduate of an Arkansas high school, and illegal aliens were NOT given any special consideration.

Governor Huckabee opposes giving driver's licenses to those who are illegally in our country and supports legislation to prevent states from doing so. Mike Huckabee believes illegal aliens who try to vote or try to apply for welfare benefits should be arrested.

For more information on where Gov. Mike Huckabee stands on immigration and border security, visit and click on "Truth Squad."

LIE #4: "Mike Huckabee damaged the Republican party in Arkansas when he was governor."

The FACTS: Gov. Mike Huckabee's 10 ½ years of leadership strengthened the Republican Party. Upon becoming Arkansas' 44th Governor in 1996, Huckabee inherited a state that had been governed by Democratic governors for all but two of the previous thirty-six years. Democratic governors had appointed every member of appointed boards and commissions, and in addition, the 135 seat legislature had only 15 Republican members.

Huckabee stepped onto a stage that Republicans in Arkansas rarely walk on and governed in a difficult environment filled with partisan hostilities. In this environment, he passed conservative legislation, won statewide election in Arkansas four times, and maintained high approval ratings throughout the entire 10 ½ years as Governor.

Huckabee focused on governing to the best of his ability and fighting for the conservative values he espoused. As governor, Huckabee knew that to achieve any legislative success, the sheer numbers required him to reach across party lines. By doing so he scored extraordinary victories that state Republicans could have never achieved without his leadership. Legislatively he pushed through every possible pro-life bill allowable under Roe v. Wade, passed the first broad based tax cut in Arkansas' history, and streamlined government. All of these were reforms championed by the state party.

If you are interested in learning more, see the detailed information below under the heading, "Mike Huckbee and the Arkansas GOP."

And now, the WHOPPER: LIE #4: "Mike Huckabee can't win."

It has become a constant drumbeat, coming from the media and party pundits. They insist that John McCain has the nomination "sewn up." But guess what? Mike Huckabee CAN win!

While he might not win enough delegates through primary elections, Mike Huckabee could win the GOP nomination at a "brokered convention." All he has to do is keep John McCain from winning enough convention delegates in the upcoming primaries.

What is a brokered convention? In order to win the Republican nomination, a candidate must have the votes of 1,191 delegates at the national convention. At the time of this writing, John McCain has 828 and Mike Huckabee has 240. (source:, Feb. 17, 2008).

So John McCain still needs to earn 363 delegates.

Mitt Romney had 291 delegates, and has formally endorsed McCain. However, he is not able to force his delegates to vote for McCain; they are free to vote for whomever they wish. But even if every single one of Romney's delegates agreed to support McCain, he would still be 72 delegates short. And as of this writing (Feb. 17), there are quite a few McCain delegates who say they are not sure whom they will support!

So even in the scenario that's best for McCain (where all of Romney's people vote for McCain), McCain still needs 72 delegates. McCain cannot earn enough delegates on this Tuesday's Wisconsin primary, even if he somehow won them all, because there are only 40 delegates up for grabs there.

Polls in Wisconsin show McCain favored by almost 20 points, but 12% of voters say they are undecided, and 7% support Ron Paul. If you look at the history of the primaries so far, Mike Huckabee tends to gain about 5-10% more of the vote in each state than opinion polls predict he will. Mike will probably do surprisingly well in Wisconsin, because John McCain is complacent, and so are his voters. If they think that McCain's a shoo-in, then why should they go out in the snow and vote?

But I digress. To repeat: Even if McCain were to win ALL the delegates in Wisconsin (which he will not), Mike Huckabee still stays on until the big primary day on March 4, which includes Texas with its 140 delegates, Ohio with 88 delegates, Rhode Island (20) and Vermont (17, winner take all).

Polls show the two candidates are MUCH closer in Texas, where immigration is a huge issue. (You may recall that McCain was the author of the infamous, failed "amnesty bill" of 2007.) And Ohio has a large pro-life base.

Meanwhile, eighteen states and territories have not yet voted. Nationally, McCain and Huckabee's opinion poll results are approximately 49% to 27%. That means that for every two voters who like McCain, there is still one who supports Huckabee. That is hardly a mandate! [And these poll results are IN SPITE OF the false media reports that say (1) McCain has it sewn up, or (2) that Huckabee is no longer in the race.] That also means that 1 voter in 4 is still undecided, or is holding out for Ron Paul. There is a real opportunity for Mike Huckabee to make the case to these voters. They are already familiar with John McCain; but who is this upstart Mike Huckabee, and why is he still standing?

Historical precedents: Readers may be interested to know that Abraham Lincoln gained the Republican nomination as the result of a brokered convention in 1860, even though he was not the front runner. Also, in 1976 Gerald Ford defeated Ronald Reagan on the first ballot during a brokered convention.

In the meantime, anything can happen. Politics is a human business with human failings and foibles. John McCain is famous for having a terrible temper and for explosive outbursts. If he were to have a public episode, his candidacy could fail. (see the New York Times article dated Feb. 17, 2008, titled "A Smiling, Fidgeting McCain Learning to Rein Himself In",

Are you old enough to remember Senator Gary Hart in 1987, daring the reporters to catch him with a woman? (Oops. After a photo appeared, Hart's support was cut in half literally overnight.) Remember Howard Dean's "I Have a Scream" speech? (Buh-bye.) And some of you may know the story about Virginia's former senator, George Allen. In the summer of 2006, he was widely considered to be a likely Republican front-runner for president in this election cycle. Unfortunately, in an unguarded moment caught on video, Allen called an someone who he THOUGHT was an immigrant a derogatory name, "macaca." (Turns out the guy was an American citizen and college student.) The video was posted on YouTube, viewed by millions, and that was the end of George Allen's political career. He lost his GOP Senate seat to a Democrat, as well, and the balance of power in the Senate was tipped to the Dems by 51-49.

So…. It ain't over 'til it's over, folks…and it AIN'T over yet!

IN THE MEANTIME… If you have ever wondered if Mike Huckabee is REALLY a conservative, watch this speech! It is INCREDIBLE!!! I was there! I lost count of how many standing ovations Huckabee received from this VERY conservative crowd:

Huckabee vs. McCain - Americas Choice

Here are a few reasons why a vote for McCain is no different then a vote for Obama or Hillary...
All three of them have a long record of selling out the second amendment and America...

All three of them have a long record of supporting amnesty...
All three of them support the stinking free trade agreements that have only benefited the rich corporations and corrupt politicians...
While both Obama and Clinton have promised to raise taxes and entitlements for all; and McCain has now flip-flopped and promised to cut a tax or two...
ONLY Mike Huckabee would abolish the IRS utilizing the M.I.T., Harvard, Stanford, and Yale engineered Fair Tax Initiative:
The only candidate from any party with a perfect second amendment support record is Mike Huckabee…
The only candidate from any party with a CCW is Mike Huckabee…
The only candidate from any party whom has signed a “no amnesty pledge” is Mike Huckabee…
The only candidate from any party whom has actually faced the Clinton political machine and defeated it is Mike Huckabee and he did so soundly every time, 4 times in all despite being out spent in excess of 100-1.

Mike Huckabee on the issues, policies, and values:

The facts on the false, baseless, and misleading attacks on Mike Huckabee by Mitt Romney (withdrew), Fred Thompson (withdrew), Ron Paul and others:

How much would you be willing to donate to ensure that for the next 4 or 8 years there was no federal amnesty and no further federal second amendment infringements in your future?

Urgent Announcement: Your Attention Needed Immediately

We have an online Petition which asks Sen. McCain to debate Gov. Huckabee before March 4th. The petition is at . There is a short amount of time to really turn up the heat. This petition must be circulated very quickly, wide and far, and will become, I hope, a tool for the Campaign to prod McCain to debate. We also have simultaneously launched a companion web page which is meant to do a little provoking itself. It has a link to the petition, and also gives many of the sources for why we believe McCain is not the Party's best choice*. The web page can be reached at OR

How Huckabee can win and beat McCain

In regards to Huckabee not being able to beat McCain...

The math did not work, over 10,000 computer simulations clearly showed that the Giants had a snow-balls chance in hell of beating the patriots in the super bowl! Guess What? HELL FROZE OVER!

I guess I need to point out once again that this is MEDIA SPIN made by MAXED OUT CONTRIBUTERS TO the Juan Amnesty, second amendment sell-out, Keating 5 Criminal McCAIN campaign such as KARL FRICKING ROVE...

HOW ABOUT Rick Perry Governor of Texas making a Call to Mike Huckabee to please withdraw from the race? It is also noteworthy to mention that Rick Perry is also a McCain supporter and contributer now that gun-grabbing Rudy is out...

Anybody see the pattern Yet? McCain is calling in favors and making promises...

Who is voting for McCain? the Moderates and Independents that lean toward the Republican Party...

Huckabee is getting the Conservative vote of the people! Check the stats!

Not withstanding the biased polls said McCain would take Kansas by a landslide and it was Huckabee by a mile!

In case nobody else noticed, HUCKABEE's national campaign manager is none other then Ed Rollins whom led Ronald Reagan to victory despite being counted down and out; if there was not a way to make it happen he would have been the first to speak up about it...

I will also point out what NONE of the biased media and McCain supporters are pointing out when they say it is mathematically impossible for Huckabee to beat McCain...
1. McCain actually has to acquire those 1,191 delegates BEFORE the September Nationals to prevent a brokered convention... regardless of whether or not Huckabee has them either...
2. Absolutely nobody that is saying Huckabee can't get the delegates to beat McCain is conveniently not mentioning:
. Super Delegates (Can vote for whom ever they want at the national convention)
. Unbound Delegates (Ditto).
. Uncommitted Delegates (Ditto).
3. There are 24 States and 7 months left to vote.

The FACT is If we do not UNITE behind HUCKABEE NOW we can guarantee that gun-control and amnesty to say the least is in our immediate future with McCain, Billary or Hussein...

Huckabee victory over McCain in sight

February 8, 2008

Memorandum to Huckabee Campaigners

From: Ed Rollins, Campaign Chairman; Chip Saltsman,
Campaign Manager

Re: Our Path to Victory at the Minneapolis-St. Paul

Too many Republicans have tried to turn this nomination battle into a
coronation, not a series of further election contests. Big mistake on
their part. They are wrong. We know that we are running an underdog
campaign, but that’s nothing new—we have always been the underdog. And yet
a whole lot of onetime “overdogs” are now on the sidelines, licking their
wounds. The Republican National Convention is seven long months away; a
lot can happen in that much time. A lot will happen.

But in the meantime, as you all know, Governor Huckabee is not a quitter.
He has never shirked from a challenge, and he never will. He has always
told us—and personally reaffirmed to us just today—that he is in this race
to win. That is, to win the Republican presidential nomination, and to win
the White House. Why? Because he cares deeply about the issues that
inspired him to get into politics in the first place—back in the 60s, when
he started studying the works of the great conservative thinkers and
writers, back in the 70s, when he was an ardent supporter of another
underdog Republican. And what was that fellow’s name? Oh yes—it was
Ronald Reagan.

So don’t let anyone tell you that it’s over! In fact, as of today, no
fewer than 27 states, districts, and territories have not yet had a chance
to vote. That includes such big states as Texas (Chuck Norris’ home state,
‘nuff said), Ohio, and Pennsylvania. All the Republicans and
Republican-minded independents in those states want to be part of the
process, too, and they deserve to have a choice put before them. Folks
don’t want the Republican Establishment to pick the nominee for them,
through a premature rush to judgment, and they sure as heck don’t want the
media to pick the nominee!

We note that in many of the hottest contests so far, the vote has been
divided into thirds—typically, about one-third for Governor Huckabee, one
third for Senator McCain, and one third for all the other candidates. And
as you know, typically, Governor Huckabee has done best among hardcore
Republicans—the activist base. That’s one reason why we are looking
forward to Governor Huckabee’s speech to the legendary CPAC, the
Conservative Political Action Conference, in DC tomorrow morning. You’d
better believe that the folks gathered at the Omni Shoreham hotel are the
go-getters who make or break primary elections. Just wait till they get a
load of Mike Huckabee!

We are confident that we will get most of the activists, the folks who work
the hardest because they care the most about the issues. In addition, we
note that many of the jurisdictions that have already voted have merely had
the first round of their delegate-selection process. To be frank, there’s
still plenty of time for politicking, as Republicans really focus on the
question of who should lead their party into the November election. Who’s
the most stalwart champion of Republican and conservative values? Who’s
the most articulate and effective campaigner? We know the answer to those
questions—that’s why we have been working our hearts out for Mike Huckabee.
But soon, everyone paying attention will know that, too. As the campaign
season grinds on—and let’s again remember, this is just February!—there
will be plenty of time for reflection and reconsideration, especially among
those hundreds of delegates pledged to candidates who have now dropped out.

As we saw in West Virginia on Tuesday—where Governor Huckabee swooped in on
the day of the state convention and won a decisive victory that changed the
tone of the remainingSuper Tuesday coverage—a single good speech from our
candidate is often worth more than all the tens of millions of dollars, and
all the big-shot endorsements, that the other candidates have been able to
drum up.

Indeed, it’s interesting that Mike Huckabee has done so well in the states
so critical to Republican prospects this November. That is, those “swing
states” that are essential building blocks of a Republican victory
coalition this year. Let’s face it: This November, we’re not likely to be
looking forward to a GOP landslide! The last two presidential elections
were close—the GOP won 271 electoral votes in ’00, and 286 in ’04—and we
fully expect the ’08 election to be hard-fought and close, too, as both
parties wrestle to get the majority of those 538 electoral votes. What
does all this mean to Republican activists? Well, it means that the next
Republican nominee has to be able to nail down the electoral votes of such
“must-win” states in the South and Border States—exactly the states where
Mike Huckabee has done so well this year. Hard-nosed political activists
know that it doesn’t do much good, November-wise, to run well in the blue
bicoastal states. Sure, it would be great to carry New York and
Massachusetts and California, but those mostly liberal states aren’t a part
of any gut-it-out “270” strategy. (In fact, we think that Mike Huckabee
would actually run stronger among traditional Independent and Democratic
constituencies than any other Republican, but that’ll be the subject of a
future memo.)

And now, with the endorsement of Dr. James Dobson, who is the “gold
standard” of social conservatism, we fully expect that Movement
Conservatives—those who fight the good fight on Life, on Marriage, on the
Second Amendment—will increasingly rally to our cause. In fact, come to
think of it, any American who reveres the US Constitution has a stake in
Mike Huckabee’s success, because he has been an unstinting proponent of all
our Constitutional freedoms, including the First Amendment, which he
believes has been wrongly abridged by wrong-headed campaign finance
“reform” legislation. Of course, there is one amendment that MH doesn’t
like: The 16th Amendment. That one was a mistake, which he will fix with
the Fair Tax!

Mike Huckabee has great respect for John McCain. He has always defended the
senior senator from Arizona against unfair and scurrilous attacks, and he
always will. And because MH is who he is, he will continue to campaign as
he always has—in an honorable and honest way. He will draw distinctions, he
will debate and debate hard, but he will always be civil and decent. In
fact, even many McCain supporters have told us that they appreciate the
constructive role that Governor Huckabee can play in the months to come,
because a vigorous discussion will keep all the media “oxygen” from
migrating over to the heated Democratic contest.

Faith. Family. Freedom. Those are the words that have guided Mike Huckabee
this far, and they will continue to guide him, and us, all the way to the
White House next January. The 44th governor of Arkansas will be the 44th
President of the United States.

See you at the Inauguration!

Americans must UNITE for Huckabee...

We do not have to buy what the biased media says and concede to John McCain...

If we do nothing, we can only say we did nothing...

America Says No To John McCain

Conservatives say no to John McCain...

John McCain voted to reward up to 6 million illegal aliens with amnesty (2007)

John McCain Voted YES on comprehensive immigration reform. (Jun 2007), Joining Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and other liberals on amnesty just last year!

John McCain Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006)

John McCain Voted YES on giving Guest Workers a path to citizenship. (May 2006)

John McCain Voted YES on allowing more foreign workers into the US for farm work. (Jul 1998)

John McCain should change his campaign slogan from "No Surrender" to "No Surrender - Except for Amnesty, The Second Amendment or Supporting the Constitution" OR "I John McCain Sold Out The American People, in favor of Illegal Aliens..."

Anybody whom does five minutes or more of research on John McCain will find he is America's biggest Amnesty sell-out in U.S. history...

Not to mention selling us out on the second amendment while hypocritically claiming to support it; at a recent debate he finally admitted "I do not own a gun"...

I have respect for John McCain's military service, regardless of how controversial (I do not have the same respect for Hanoi John Kerry) but that does not qualify him to be President, not withstanding he has absolutely no experience actually running a Government. Moreover, nor does his decades of selling out the American people on Amnesty, the Second Amendment and the stinking Free Trade Agreements just to name a few...

John Kerry's band-aid purple hearts that he submitted himself for when his own commanding officer refused to do so are but a fraction of why he deserved every thing the Swift Boat Vets said about him and more; they were too kind in this USMC Veteran opinion...

The only canidate running for President from any party that has faced the Clinton Political Machine is Governor Mike Hucakbee and he defeated them soundly every time; 4 times in all!

"In the past week, Senator John McCain and Mayor Giuliani have clarified on national TV that they intend for most illegal aliens to be granted the very things they broke immigration laws to steal: an American job and U.S. residency."
John McCain on the issues - Amnesty Sell-Out

John McCain has a significant pork spending record.
John McCain does NOT support the Fair Tax or the abolishment of the IRS!

John McCain opposed the Bush taxes cuts he now supports making permanent!

Here are a few more of John McCain's sell-outs of the American people for those that are still misguidedly even remotely considering voting for in your Applicable Caucus/Primary:

John McCain joined Isolationist & Separatist Ron Paul in voting NO on supporting Hurricane Katrina victims,

John McCain Criticized $3 million "bear DNA" study, but voted for it. (Nov 2007) (more McCain Hypocrisy)

John McCain Voted NO on continuing desert protection in California. (Oct 1994)

John McCain supports the free trade agreements that have destroyed our economy...
John McCain has a 100% pro-free trade record no need to reiterate herein...
he sucks here too...
I will mention one to to remind my fellow Americans about NAFTA and how hurtful to working Americans these stinking free trade agreements are...

Immediately following NAFTA General Motors closed 11 plants in the U.S. and opened 3 in Mexico...

G.M. put 10's of thousands of employees making at the time 15-20 dollars an hour plus benefits on the street.

G.M. subsequently replaced them with Mexicans in Mexico for 1 dollar a hour and no benefits...

Did G.M. make better vehicles? NO
Did G.M. lower the price of vehicles? NO
Who has benefited from NAFTA? Foreign Nations & G.M. and other American big businesses & Politicians including John McCain who have sold out the American people again and again on these free trade agreements that were not put to the vote of the American people.
They need to be repealed...

John McCain voted to increase foreign worker importation (2007)

John McCain Voted YES on allowing another round of military base closures. (May 1999)
(So we can thank John McCain & Slick Willie Clinton for cannibalizing our military prior to 911)

John McCain says No more ballot initiatives against immigration. (Mar 1999)

John McCain Voted YES on establishing a Guest Worker program. (May 2006)

John McCain Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006)

John McCain Voted YES on giving Guest Workers a path to citizenship. (May 2006)

John McCain Voted YES on allowing more foreign workers into the US for farm work. (Jul 1998)

John McCain Voted YES on visas for skilled workers. (May 1998)

John McCain Voted YES on limit welfare for immigrants. (Jun 1997)

We do not need anybody else that is not a U.S. citizen being given opportunities to take American jobs, underbid the pay scale for American jobs, when we actually have jobs that are advertised nationally that no American will take then we should give that opportunity to a foreign worker visa holder or applicant.

Amnesty loving John McCain is responsible for the 1.4 billion dollars illegals aliens in Arizona cost legal workers in Arizona in lost jobs and lower wages in 2007 alone...

John McCain is one of three (3) republicans in Congress whom join seven (7) democrats as being the top 10 supporters of Amnesty in the history of Congress.
How can we trust John McCain when he aligns with the likes of Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer and other liberal constitutional sell-outs of the American people on such things as Amnesty and the Second Amendment and others...

What state has the WORST ILLEGAL ALIEN PROBLEM? Arizona! Land of John McCain and other amnesty lovers that represent Arizona constituents...
