I am a retired 30 year veteran of the USMC, seen action on Four Continents, unfortunately I am physically unable to do another combat tour, due to my last round of injuries; although my sons and one daughter followed me to the middle-east and are still there doing their patriotic duty as they see it; I never asked them to join the core, it was their decision; I am also a U.S. born citizen, a republican and I vote and I will be voting Mike Huckabee in the primary.

Don't get me wrong; I respect everybody's opinion herein, comments etc., on their canidates; although based on my personal experience I can not support Ron Paul; I do think he is doing good for the second amendment as a representative though; and in my opinion that is his niche.

Chuck Norris Endorses Mike Huckabee!

Chuck Norris Endorses Mike Huckabee...
My choice for president
Posted: October 21, 2007

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee

A short time ago, I wrote in jest about what I would do if I am elected president. Of course, that was written all in good fun.

Like most of you, over the summer and into the fall, I've been watching, listening, studying and praying about who could lead this country as our next president.

I won't leave you in suspense. Though Giuliani might be savvy enough to lead people, Fred Thompson wise enough to wade through the tides of politics, McCain tough enough to fight terrorism and Romney business-minded enough to grow our economy, I believe the only one who has all of the characteristics to lead America forward into the future is ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Newt Gingrich called Mike "very effective … if Huckabee can find money, he will be dramatically competitive almost overnight." Bill Clinton called Huckabee the "only dark horse that's got any kind of chance … He's the best speaker they've got." There is even a pro-Huckabee swell rising among the younger generation.

Who he is (before what he can do)

More than anything he has done or can do, however, it is first who Mike is that impresses me most...

The conservative case against Ron Paul

1. Ron Paul is a libertarian, not a conservative
2. Ron Paul is one of the people spreading the North American Union conspiracy.
3. Ron Paul encourages "truther" conspiracy nuts.
4. Ron Paul's racial views.
5. A lot of Ron Paul's supporters are incredibly irritating.
6. Ron Paul is an isolationist.
7. Ron Paul wants to immediately cut and run in Iraq.
8. In the single most repulsive moment of the entire Presidential race so far, Ron Paul excused Al-Qaeda's attack on America with this comment about 9/11...
"They attack us because we've been over there. We've been bombing Iraq for 10 years."

In other words, America deserved to be attacked by Al-Qaeda.

This is the sort of facile comment you'd expect to hear from an America-hating left winger like Michael Moore or Noam Chomsky, not from a Republican running for President -- or from any Republican in office for that matter. If you want to truly realize how foolish that sort of thinking is, imagine what the reaction would be if we had bombed Egyptian or Indonesian civilians after 9/11 and then justified it by saying "We attacked them because those Muslims have been over here."
9. Ron Paul is the single, least electable major candidate running for the presidency in either party.

Summary: Is Ron Paul serious about small government, enforcing the Constitution, and enforcing the borders? Yes, and those are all admirable qualities. However, he also has a host of enormous flaws that makes him unqualified to be President and undesirable, even as a Republican Congressmen.

Conservatives against Ron Paul

Conservatives against Ron Paul...

February 1998 on former President Bill “Slick-Willie” Clinton’s watch…
Usama Bin Ladin, exiled from his own country and Ayman Al Zawahiri, another criminal; arranged from their Afghanistan headquarters for an Arabic newspaper in London to publish his declaration of war on America; Bin Ladin in this declaration translated and published world wide by the associated press, et. al., called for the murder of any American, anywhere on earth and as the individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it.

Three months later when interviewed in Afghanistan by ABC-TV, Bin Ladin enlarged on these themes. He claimed it was more important for Muslims to kill Americans then to kill other infidels. It is far better for anyone to kill a single American soldier then to squander his efforts on other activities, he said. When asked whether he approved of terrorism and of attacks on civilians, he replied: We believe that the worst thieves in the world today and the worst terrorists are the Americans. Nothing could stop you except perhaps retaliation in kind. We do not have to differentiate between military or civilian. As far as we are concerned, they are all targets…

This is why informed and clear thinking Americans oppose Ron Paul's bid to become president. The main reason is this: He is clueless about the nature of the threat we face from Islamo-fascism. He is clueless about the nature of the conflict in the Middle East.
America is under siege from Islamo-fascist enemies. We've been attacked – the worst ever in our history. This is no time to back down or even to appear to be weak.

It would be disastrous if we cut and run now as Ron Paul suggests.

The defense of the country is a paramount issue in a presidential election. It is the most important responsibility of the executive branch of government. Yet, Paul's positions on the key defense and security issues of the day are closer to those of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry than Ronald Reagan.

Senator Coburn Goes On The Offensive
-- Asks Veteran Affairs to explain why they continue banning vets from owning guns
Gun Owners of America
8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102
Springfield, VA 22151

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Senator Tom Coburn isn't going to go away quietly. As you know from previous GOA alerts, the Republican Senator from Oklahoma has placed a hold on the noxious legislation that is being pushed by Senator Chuck Schumer of New York.

Because of his actions, the Veterans Disarmament Act (HR 2640 and S 2084) has been stalled in the Senate for a few weeks. But not content to remain silent, Sen. Coburn sent a pointed letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs, asking them to justify their actions.

Coburn states in his letter that the Veterans Affairs continues to send the names of "approximately 1,000 additional veterans" to the Department of Justice every month. According to the Congressional Research Service, Coburn says, this has resulted in "approximately 140,000 Veterans" being added into the NICS background check system.

"This situation is concerning to me," he continues, "as the vast majority of these veterans have committed no crime." Coburn correctly notes that if these veterans should continue to own a firearm, they could "unknowingly be in violation" of federal law.

Interestingly, Coburn notes that the VA gun ban for veterans is not based on their being a "danger to him/herself or others" but rather that they supposedly can't manage their own financial affairs.

Coburn ends his letter with a very pointed request: "I respectfully request that you share with me your plans to prevent the release of more veterans' names without due process."

That's the key: these brave souls are being denied their gun rights WITHOUT DUE PROCESS. Some have claimed that this bill would provide relief for those who are being unjustly denied. Of course, this is very questionable since Congress has, since 1993, defunded the ability of the BATFE to restore the rights of veterans and other victims of gun control. (This is the result of a Chuck Schumer amendment.)

Certainly, GOA would support avenues to provide relief. But the Veterans Disarmament Act is not the vehicle to do this, since the bill actually CHANGES federal law to LEGALLY BAN those 140,000 veterans from owning firearms.1 Once the bill is enacted and those veterans and other Americans are LEGALLY DISARMED, the bill then provides some limited avenues for pursuing relief -- although Americans will face an uphill battle as they will have to spend tens of thousands of dollars pressing their case in court where THEY WILL HAVE THE BURDEN of proving their innocence.

Even if these expensive court battles prove successful, they are still not guaranteed to get their gun rights back. Sen. Schumer can simply offer another amendment which prevents the FBI from removing names from the NICS system, just as his 1993 amendment still defunds the ability of the federal government to grant relief TO THIS DAY.
Sarah Brady Is Lobbying Hard For The McCarthy-Schumer Bill

It's no wonder that the Brady Bunch is plugging so hard for this bill. Several news agencies have stated that passage of this bill would represent the "first major gun control law in more than a decade."2

Sarah Brady wants this bill bad. Her organization led a bunch of Virginia Tech survivors to Chuck Schumer's office this week to get media attention in favor of the Veterans Disarmament Act.

And she sent out an e-mail last week urging members to donate to her organization, thus helping to get the McCarthy-Schumer bill passed. "In July, the U.S. House of Representatives took a courageous first step to keep guns out of the wrong hands by passing HR 2640, the NICS Improvement Act," Brady said. "The Brady Campaign is working full force to convince the U.S. Senate to pass this bill immediately."

Those who would disarm us are working hard to diminish your rights. Have you written your Senators recently?

(1) See GOA's extensive write-up on the Veterans Disarmament Act. In this section, By one can read an analysis of the bill, plus see what others are saying about it as well.
(2) "NRA, Democrats Team Up To Pass Gun Bill",, June 13, 2007; and "House Tempers Background Checks for Guns," Associated Press, June 14, 2007.

ACTION: Please use the letter below to contact your Senators and urge them to join Sen. Coburn in putting a hold on the Veterans Disarmament Act. You can use the pre-written message below and send it as an e-mail by visiting the GOA Legislative Action Center (where phone and fax numbers are also available).
----- Pre-written letter -----

Dear Senator:

I urge you to OPPOSE the efforts of the Brady Campaign. This organization, led by Sarah Brady, is PLUGGING HARD for the Veterans Disarmament Act which has been opposed by the American Legion and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Have you told Senator Tom Coburn yet that you will join him in putting a hold on this legislation (HR 2640 and S 2084) which is being actively pushed by one of the most anti-Second Amendment legislators in the entire Congress -- Senator Chuck Schumer?

If you have not yet added your name and placed a hold on this noxious bill, please tell me why.

Also, Senator Coburn has authored a letter (addressed to the Veteran Affairs) which asks them to justify why they have determined more than 140,000 veterans ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO OWN A GUN!

These veterans have been denied WITHOUT DUE PROCESS and even without a determination that they are a danger to society. They have been denied simply because they supposedly lack the ability to "manage [their] own financial affairs."

Please let me know when you have joined the Coburn "hold" on the Veterans Disarmament Act. Thank you.

GOA On Fox News

See GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt debating the Brady Campaign. At issue was whether a teacher in Oregon with a CCW permit should be allowed to carry her gun to school to protect herself from her ex-husband. Pratt defended the woman, saying that, "The only thing we can be sure of in a gun free zone is the killer will have a gun, because he doesn't care about that law.... The group in our population that has the lowest crime rate -- and the lowest accidental firearms rate actually -- are those who have concealed carry permits."

Harry Reid and the Democrats Vote for Sanctuary Cities Again!

The Vitter amendment would have effectively eliminated sanctuary
policies in local municipalities, whereby law enforcement officials
are barred from asking suspects about their immigration status or
reporting them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Shame on
those senator(s) who voted for protecting these law-breaking

. How will the Democratic leadership explain to voters in the next
election that they instructed Democratic senators to vote to support
sanctuary policies for illegal aliens? At worst, these policies create
environments where tragedies like the Newark murders take place. At
best, these policies encourage illegal immigration in communities
which must then contend with overcrowded housing, schools, hospitals
and declining wages and job opportunities for its residents.

. It is highly unlikely that any sanctuary cities in our individual states would
have lost funding if the Vitter amendment passed because nearly all of
them would choose to end their sanctuary policies rather than face the
loss of Federal funds. The senator(s) could have effectively ended
sanctuary policies that protect illegal aliens, but chose to protect
illegal aliens instead.

. The Vitter amendment would have ensured that existing law is
enforced uniformly across the country by withholding COPS Federal
funding for cities that choose to violate section 642(a) of the 1996
Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA).
The Vitter amendment would have passed if only six more senators had stood up against illegal immigration.

I am outraged by this...

Let our senators, the President and Harry Reid know this will not be tolerated!

Write, call, email, fax your representatives in Washington:

Do Not Be Fooled By The NRA on H.R. 2640

Being a current member of the NRA I am disgusted by their position on H.R. 2640...

H.R. 2640 is yet another piece of anti-gun legislation in a long line of such constitutional infringements by Anti-Gun Zealot Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) whom ran for congress just to push her anti-gun agenda on us.

The NRA has gone to great lengths to try to pull the wool over our eyes on H.R. 2640 and would have us believe such pieces of fiction as:

1. "The NICS Improvement Bill: Myth and Reality"

2. H.R. 2640, the "NICS Improvement Amendments Act"

3. "Clearing the Air on the Instant Check Bill"

4. "H.R. 2640: Sensible Solution or Trojan Horse?"

5 ."Gun Bill Not Anti-Veteran",15202,151321_1,00.html?wh=wh

6. "Enough NRA Bashing"

The cold hard facts are that the NRA will not insist that the following amendments be added to H.R. 2640 before they support it; they think it is ok the way it is...
H.R. 2640 is intentionally ambiguous in order to leave the loop holes that the following amendments would close...

Amendment A

At the appropriate place, add the following:

"Notwithstanding any other provision of law or of this Act, the name of a veteran, disabled child, or other person suffering from a disability may be made available to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(4) only pursuant to a finding of a judge, magistrate, or other judicial authority. It shall be unlawful for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System to maintain the name of any veteran who was discharged under honorable conditions and who has not been subject to a finding of a judge, magistrate, or other judicial authority pursuant to the provisions of this paragraph. Any person whose name continues to be unlawfully retained by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in violation of the provisions of this paragraph may, beginning on the day six months from the date of enactment of this Act, bring an action against the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in the district court for the district in which such person resides, and, upon a finding that such person's name has been unlawfully retained, shall be awarded actual damages, attorneys' fees, and liquidated damages of $5,000."

Amendment B

"A person shall not be prohibited from acquiring, possessing, or selling a firearm under subsections (d) and (g) of section 922, Title 18, United States Code, because of a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)."

Amendment C

In section 203, paragraph (2), strike "on the date of the enactment of this Act" and insert in lieu thereof "on July 26, 2007".

EXPLANATION: This amendment would prohibit BATFE from changing the terms of the statute by changing its regulations between now and enactment.

Amendment D

In section 203, before the period at the end a semicolon, add the following: "provided, however, that a soldier or veteran, honorably discharged, is not, by virtue of his service and the trauma suffered in connection with his service, prohibited from shipping, transporting, possessing, receiving, selling, or disposing of a firearm under paragraph (4) of section 922(d) and 922(g) of title 18, United States Code."

EXPLANATION: This amendment would make it clear that veterans suffering from PTSD are not prohibited persons.

Amendment E

In section 203, before the period at the end a semicolon, add the following: "provided, however, that a person who, having been a child participating in a program under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, shall not be prohibited from shipping, transporting, possessing, receiving, selling, or disposing of a firearm under paragraph (4) of sections 922(d) and 922(g) of title 18, United States Code, by virtue of a diagnosis in connection with such program".

EXPLANATION: This amendment would make it clear that a kid in the IDEA program wouldn't have his diagnosis make him a prohibited person.

Do not be snow balled on H.R. 2640 by the NRA; let your representatives in Washington know that you want them to oppose this anti-gun legislation without the aforementioned amendments to clarify its current ambiguity and hidden anti-gun loopholes...
